Catching Up : : Give-Away Books

Lest you think I’ve disappeared, I haven’t. But I have been really busy with my mother who continues to slip – by millimeters, it seems.  She is a fighter.  I admire her courage. I feel helpless just watching. I spent the end of May moving her from an assisted living place where she had come to need more care than assistance, to a nursing facility where she has round-the-clock care.  It’s about all I can do now – except show up every day, which I’ve been doing.

I’ve read a lot of books while she’s slept.  And we’ve talked when she’s awake.  We watched the French Open, and i knew she was really failing when she couldn’t follow all the brackets.  She always knew all that stuff. Now we’re watching soccer.  Men in shorts.  Yes!

I’m putting together my list of give-away books for May, which I totally missed due to Montana and Mother-issues, and June.

The first batch includes:

  • Barbara Metzger: The Bargain Bride
  • Eva Ibbotson: The Reluctant Heiress
  • Lucy Gordon:  Beauty and the Boss
  • Tod Goldberg: Burn Notice ~ The Fix (great fun if you like the series!)
  • Bernard Cornwell:  Gallows Thief (he didn’t only write the Sharpe books)
  • Kate Walker: The Twelve Month Mistress
  • Jayne Ann Krentz:  Eye of the Beholder

If you want to be in the monthly drawing, send me an email from my contest page or from the Contact Anne link on the sidebar here.

I’m going to stop apologizing for going missing for long periods of time and promising to do better. I’ve begun to realize that this year there may be no ‘doing better’ – not until things settle down.

I’ve told the Romance Novelists Association, which had kindly invited me to speak at their conference in July, that I won’t be able to make it.  No idea what the future brings, and I need to be on call.  Won’t get to do the wonderful week in Wales with Kate Walker and The Babe Magnet, either.  Not going anywhere for the foreseeable future.

But I will get back to post more books. Soon, I hope.

  2. Thanks, Lacey. Appreciate the hugs and good thoughts.

The Magnet and I will miss you both at RNA and in Wales – but we know you have your priorities right and there’s only one place you can be. We’ll hope to see you another time, meanwhile, loving hugs to you and to your Mum. And no, you have nothing to apologise for.
