The Battle of the Flea

micahcloseIt turns out that Micah is allergic to fleas.  All it takes is one and he’s a basket case.

We had one.

He became a basket case.

By the time we had scoured the house within an inch of its life, done upwards of 16 loads of laundry (anything not nailed down got washed), called in the outside sprayers because it worked out to be not even $20 more to have them do their stuff than if we’d done a less thorough job, several days went by.

Then he got sick. The antibiotics made him so ill I don’t even want to describe what he went through.  So I sat up with him all night long.  We both survived. Barely.

Suffice to say we are not giving him those antibiotics anymore.

Nick and Edie came to something of a standstill – minus the all-nighter I spent writing them while Micah was so ill.  Now they are finally getting back on track.

I hope.

I have a post up on the Pink Heart on Wednesday – I hope you’ll stop by and visit.  I’ve been getting emails recently about a post I wrote a couple of years ago about my favorite Harlequin writer, Jane Donnelly.

The author I’m celebrating this coming Wednesday was another whose many books are on my keeper shelf (who am I kidding? SHELVES!): Essie Summers.

Who are some of your favorites – and why?

  1. Hopefully Micah is better.
When I was growing up, we had a cat who was allergic to fleas and used to come up in bloody welts.
    You have my sympathies.
And having read your post on Essie Summers, I am pretty sure the first Harelquin I read was by her.

  2. Lacey Devlin says:

(HUGS) for you and Micah. Nasty fleas and antibiotics!

  3. Michelle, how awful for your poor cat. Our was allergic to fleas, too, as was another one of our previous beloved dogs. We had to be soooo careful with her when she was out wandering for fear she’d get bit. But this was a first for Micah.

Essie was memorable. And so many of her books were keepers. She “got it” when it came to what really matters in a relationship.

Lacey, thanks so much! He’s feeling far better than he did — and so am I, fortunately. Just wish I didn’t lose three days from exhaustion post-flea. Hard to get back on track.
